The white spots on your teeth, also known as decalcification or demineralization, are caused by dental plaque. The white chalky marks appear when acids, created by the plaque, remove minerals on the tooth surface and changes the way it reflects light.
So how to we prevent these white spots? While braces and orthodontic treatment make it difficult, it is not impossible to clean your teeth. Regular bushing and flossing is a must. Another preventative measure you can take is using a fluoride mouthwash to strengthen teeth and prevent demineralization.
In rare cases, braces can be removed so the teeth can be cleaned thoroughly but if you take the steps to prevent plaque buildup, you will have a even white smile when your braces are moved and your orthodontic treatment is completed!
